Sean Koji Callaghan is finishing work on his doctoral dissertation, "The Disagreement of Being, a Critique of Life and Vitality in the Meiji Era," in the Department of East Asian Studies at the University of Toronto. He is the recipient of several grants and awards including the Japan Foundation Japanese Studies Fellowship and the SSHRC CGS Doctoral Scholarship. His research interests include early modern to modern Japanese history and political economy, Meiji era literature, French post-structuralism, critical theory, and Japanese popular culture. When his nose is not in a book, he can be found snuggled on the couch with his wife watching their two guinea pigs run mad circles around the coffee table.
